Six At Six The Italian Collection

Today we kick off our Six at Six series with Myriam Alteri-Haslinger, Owner/Founder of The Italian Collection, a wonderful online emporium of all exquisite things artisanal from Italy, particularly some rather sumptuous cashmere which is ZZZZzzzz enticing if ever there was.

As you may have guessed Myriam is Italian by birth, resident in the US and a bit of a globetrotter - can one be a "bit" of a globetrotter or are you either one or not?? Anyway ...

  1. How do you feel about sleep?
    1. I have to do it
    2. Need more but never enough time
    3. Love it & make sure I get as much as possible

Leaning into (c) as sleep is so important to one’s health. My trainer shares that sleep deprivation is one of the leading causes of far too many illnesses, and a major contributor to unwanted pounds, particularly for us ladies. So as vanity is playing a role here, I try to be tucked under the sheets by 21:00, less stringent so on the weekend. When I stay on course, I find this self-imposed regimen manifests in the most exquisite ways…more energy, clarity of mind, skip in one’s step and an overall wellness of being that is palpable.

  1. What or where was your worst night’s sleep ever?

I am not sure if I one night stands out as the worst ever. However, I have to say that my sleep pattern is compromised each time we have a full moon. Yes, a full moon! If you consider that this celestial body impacts the tides of the sea, why not us human beings. We are 98% water, after all! Perhaps there is something to the term lunatic?

  1. What or where was your BEST night’s sleep ever?

Again, I do not know if I have one of these, but I will say that the quality of my slumber tends to be higher when I am on holiday, for instance in the south of France where I am lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves lapping the shore. Likewise, when hubby and I pop down to Key West for a winter escape. I believe there is something to be said for taking a break from the daily grind, find a happy space and detach from all technology. Isn’t that what holidays are all about?

  1. Do you have a sleep ritual?

I do have a sleep ritual. As shared, it is lights out at 21:00, a routine that really works, for me.You see this gal, to function well, needs 8 hours of sleep. Moreover, it comes as no surprise to know that our bodies need to rest and recover from the mental and physical challenges of every single day. So quality sleep is jolly important.

  1. What’s the one thing you do to get a good night’s sleep?

To ensure I get a good night’s sleep I try to disengage from all devices, and I seek to stick to my daily regimen of slipping under the covers at the assigned time. And, on the advice of my doctor, at bedtime I avoid self-help books. Fiction, romantic novels, or any form of escapism seems to calm the mind making it easier to succumb to sleep. It works!

  1. Can you reveal what you wear in bed? (that’s ok if you'd rather not, it’s not mandatory!)

Really? Well, in the winter when I am home-bound I tend to wear warm and cuddly things, it feels so nice to slip under the covers donned in cashmere, or other comparable textiles.Come spring however the mood changes and the silky, lacy things get an airing.

Thank you Myriam some very sound advice! The takeaways we particularly like are 8 hours minimum and escape to Key West when you can - we're right with you!! smiley
