New Year Musings

Well not the last two, obviously and sadly, but what is it about those 7 lbs we can’t shift?  Why not and why 7?  Answers welcomed at Sophie.burkart@soffiab.com

So I bought a lovely pair of evening trousers in this year’s colour, – Pantone’s Radiant Orchid and I quote “Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health.”

And I don’t have a thing to wear with it!  Suggestions welcomed at Sophie.burkart@soffiab.com

Talking of colours, since when has black nail varnish become respectable?  Typically confined to the preserves of your teenage daughter and Marilyn Manson, but now roundly sported by women from all walks of life, ages 30-65 (myself included) courtesy of Chanel Black Satin.  How does Mr Manson feel about this and I wonder what he looks like under all the rock-goth garb?

I love luxury, you may have guessed by what we do here at SoffiaB.  Luxury from the essential oils on my tootsies having a pedicure, the butler that comes along with the suite at the Savoy, the fresh lobster we had for lunch on Christmas Eve and the beautiful wrapping of our gifts.  However can luxury be superfluous on occasion?  One retailer I used this year wrapped the gifts in a muted box, tissue paper, ribbon etc etc all very spiffy.  They also included a wee 4” x 2” envelope and card to use as a gift tag.  But it had their name and logo all over it!  Brilliant branding or extravagant waste?  For me a waste.  I feel it looks like I couldn’t be bothered to buy some gift tags.

Do you use those branded tags?  Replies welcomed at Sophie.burkart@soffiab.com

This very morning there was a pheasant in the garden, resplendent in his mottled plumage of rich ginger and black, his bright white clergy collar and a smidge of iridescent blue.  I could tell he was quite pleased with himself, he’d managed to escape the dining table so far!  Which brings me to turkey, a very unassuming bird with a very unassuming taste only made tasty by a lashings of gravy and cranberry.  Oysters used to be the staple diet in the UK and the US, fabulous – why is turkey considered festive fayre?  And how come it shares the same name as that beautiful country in the southern Mediterranean?

And whilst you are busy penning your responses to the burning issues of this blog – may I take a moment to wish you all a super-duper 2014, albeit a little late!
